The San Andres Mountains, from San Augustin
Pass on the south to Mockingbird Gap on the
north, covers 795 square miles of a de facto
wilderness of Chihuahuan Desert Mountains.
They are contained within the 3,200 square
miles of the U.S. Army White Sands Missile
Range.
This photo of San Andres Peak was taken from
the crest of Black Brushy Mountain with a
view toward the northern extent of the range.
Salinas Peak, the highest elevation, is barely
visible on the extreme right skyline and just
beyond the patch of white sands.
