Below: Salinas Peak Camp. Jeff Augustine stands at the
tent entrance. Jeff was an excellent cook. Before we hiked
to search for puma cubs to gather data on reproduction, Jeff
would bake a batch of his ÒCub CookiesÓ; huge, rich
chocolate chip cookies. Only after we had successfully
found the cubs, marked them, recorded the data, and
placed them back in the exact nursery did we reward
ourselves by sitting on a canyon rim to enjoy the scenery
and eat the cookies.
